Pay the Lower Price, Insurance or Not
Most people hand over an insurance card without ever asking what the prescription would cost without it. On older generics, the copay your plan assigns can run higher than what the drug sells for outright, and you never find out because nobody checks.
Infinity Pharmacy in Culver City accepts every insurance plan and still quotes a cash price next to it. Say the word at the counter and you get both numbers before anything is filled.
How the price gets settled before you pay
Say so
Tell the pharmacist you want the cash price on the prescription.
Both numbers
It gets priced through your plan and as cash, side by side.
You choose
Take whichever is lower that day, one prescription at a time.
Cards and coupons from Inside Rx, RxSpark, and Optum Perks run here too, and sometimes they land under both numbers.
When cash beats your coverage
Your deductible is not met yet
Early in a plan year you are often paying the full rate anyway, which is exactly when a cash price can come in under it.
The tier does not match the drug
Plans set copays by tier, so a decades old generic can carry a copay larger than the medication itself costs.
Your plan excludes it
When a medication is off the formulary you can pay cash and leave with it today, or we can start a prior authorization if you would rather chase the coverage.
You have no plan right now
Between jobs, off a parent's policy, visiting from out of state, or uninsured by choice, the cash price is simply the price.
Before you ask for a quote
- Have the drug name, the strength, and the quantity ready, because the price moves with all three.
- Ask again on refills. Acquisition costs shift, and so does the number.
- We take cash, check, debit, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, and tap to pay.
- Quotes are given Monday through Friday, 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Closed Saturday and Sunday.
